Xerox as one of the pioneers in the printing industry had developed plentiful innovations over the years especially with their imaging technology. One of these innovations is Xerox Solid Ink Technology or Solid Ink Digital Imaging Technology, an award-winning color printing technology only available to selected Xerox printing devices. It was originally invented by Tetronix Lab for their Tetronix Phaser III launched in 1991, which could print about 1 page per minute in “brilliant, graphics quality-color” that became a sucess.
Nine years later, Xerox acquired the Color Printing and Imaging Division of Tetronix and was used in Xerox machines to produce stunning color print quality. Xerox printers and multifunction printers offer its users a lower running costs compare to printing devices which use the standard printer cartridges. This is because the cartridge-free Solid Inks reduce the number of items printer users must replace like printer cartridges for example. Thus enabling an incredibly low total cost of ownership.
“The (Solid Ink) writing system is much less complicated compared to Xerography with fewer moving components and fewer replaceable supplies, which translates to the potential for lower overall operating costs,” commented by InfoTrends, regarding Xerox Solid Ink Technology.
Aside from this, the Solid Ink Technology reduces printing waste of up to 90% because it has no cartridges to dispose of and less packaging which results less environmental hazards.
Xerox Solid Ink Digital Imaging Technology also offers these three advantages:
- A simple, robust, reliable printing mechanism.
- Maintenance roller lasts tens of thousands of pages and only needs to be replaced a few times during the printer’s life.
- No other complex consumables.
According to Xerox, “The Solid Ink printing process works similar to a mini offset press and consistently prints vibrant images on virtually any paper, including recycled paper.”
Xerox printers and MFPs that are under the Xerox Solid Ink Digital Imaging Technology includes Xerox Phaser 8560MFP/N, Xerox Phaser 8560MFP/D, Xerox Phaser 8560MFP/T, Xerox Phaser 8560MFP/X and Xerox Phaser 8860MFP/D.
